News and what's new
The best of upcoming events, our recommendations, and news about books
We have now moved to our great new location on Tennyson St and have been enjoying our bigger brighter space.
This is only the third location in our 41 year history and we are now in sight of our original premises on "Beattie and Forbes Corner"
We now have more room for even more beautiful books as well as a great venue for our bookclub and other author events - watch this space.
Our bookclub at the shop is proving popular and is on the second Wednesday of every month - just let us know if you are interested in joining - and you can also become a fan on Facebook.

Inspiration for what to read
We don't make recommendations based on books solely reviewed in Wellington or Auckland - we make
personal
recommendations based on what we have read and chosen to stock. Often there is hot competition between our staff to get to read a particular book next. Between us all we read a wide range and if you check out
Our Favourites
– you will see it lists some of the great books we have been enjoying, some new and some not.
There is a fine line between marketing and informing customers and it is with some sadness that we have seen a cynical move on the part of the chains to employ a
name
to read their books for them and pass off their recommendation as anything other than a means to sell volumes of books discounted by the publisher. One chain has taken to pretending that they are
local
and and we are flattered that they also wish to be known as a
large independent!
Book Links
We like to check out reviews and find out what is happening in the book world - so we are putting together some of our favourite sites for you to enjoy.
New Zealand
National Radio Book Reviews
Can't remember the name of a book you heard reviewed last Tuesday? this has the answers and you can listen to the reviews again. We keep a list in store and put those books reviewed and in stock on the Nine to Noon shelf behind the counter.
Beattie's Book Blog
Updated every day - Graham finds all the best of book related information from NZ and around the world. We have a soft spot for this site as Graham Beattie along with Barry Forbes gave their name to our bookshop.
